Improved Management of Poultry Welfare
Program manager:
Researching methods to cater for the welfare of the birds whilst maintaining sustainable production.
Poultry welfare is a complex issue. It addresses the emotional concerns of the general public and economic returns to the farmer; but more importantly, it addresses the welfare concerns of the birds whilst maintaining the sustainable production of quality products for the consumer.
Sub-Program 3A involves in-depth research helping to reveal the methods for establishing such a balance. Projects already delivering benefits to the poultry industry include The Beak Trimming Handbook for Egg Producers and the Chicken meat welfare audit.
